The beautiful Monroe Harbor
Monroe Harbor is the centerpiece and aesthetic
crown jewel of Chicago’s
lakefront. It stretches for a mile along the lakefront,
adjacent to Millennium Park, Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain
and the Museum Campus. This is the setting from which you’ll
be sailing and relaxing on your Islander 36 or Morgan 33
yacht. Gentle breeze or freshening wind, you’ll capture
all the challenges, beauty and thrills of Lake Michigan
sailing. On your return to the harbor entrance, Buckingham
Fountain’s unmistakeable tall spray will be in full view,
guiding you at night by its colorful dancing lights.
Monroe Harbor is the sailing capital of Lake Michigan.
It is home to both the Columbia and Chicago Yacht Clubs,
and is the hub of racing activity for the Mackinac, Nood,
Verve and Tri-City races. Hundreds of thousands of spectators
crowd the harbor lakefront to watch the Independence Day
fireworks celebration, as well as the Venetian night yacht
parade and fireworks. The annual Chicago Air and Water Show
is another great attraction for boaters in the harbor.
The harbor taxi service will take you to and from your
yacht. On your mooring you can enjoy a relaxing escape as
your yacht shifts gently to follow every breeze. When you
sleep over, be sure to wake up in time to catch the morning
sunrise glinting
on the water. Watch runners and cyclists
on the lakeshore as you enjoy the privacy and tranquility
of your own small piece of the lake.
